Part Time Teacher

Lorton Primary School

Closing Date: 12 Noon Monday 19th May 2025

Part Time Teacher (0.6 minimum, up to 0.8, temporary) and Maths Leader  (M3-M6)  One year contract initially

Are you committed to ensuring you get the best out of every child?  Are you looking for an opportunity to take the next step in your career within a friendly but ambitious small team, whilst maintaining a work-life balance?

The Local Governing Body of Lorton School invite applications from appropriately qualified teachers for this part time post, teaching a small Key Stage 2 class, along with some further teaching across the full Key Stage 2 range/class (and/or Reception/Key Stage 1), and ideally the opportunity to lead Maths in the school.  The post is offered from the start of the Autumn term, as a 0.6 post (ideally a minimum of 4 mornings and 1 afternoon) but there is the opportunity to extend this to 0.8 to suit the needs and expertise of the successful candidate, in part using PE funding.  The post is offered initially on a one year contract due to the current uncertainties in school funding, but there is potential for this to become permanent and we would like to find someone who would become a committed long term member of the team.

We are looking for:

·                An excellent primary classroom practitioner with a deep understanding of primary curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.

·                Someone who will work collaboratively with other members of staff, be flexible, well organised and enthusiastic and build positive relationships with pupils and their parents.

·                Someone who is committed to get the best out of every child and to providing an imaginative and exciting curriculum.

·                Someone who will continue to develop our strong personal development offer.

The successful candidate will:

·                have experience of working within Key Stage 2 and ideally be ready to lead Maths in our school (working with the Maths Hub to take our maths teaching and learning on to the next level)

·                be able to plan and deliver lessons that meet children’s individual needs and capture their interests in all areas of the curriculum but particularly English and Maths

·                have ambitious expectations of pupils’ work and behaviour, engendering respect through positive relationships and consistency

·                be a committed team member who will play an active part in the life of the school, engage positively with families and lead by example

·                know how to keep our children protected, safe and provide an environment where they can thrive.

We can offer you:

·       A brilliant opportunity to progress your career in a school with a real family feel

·       A committed staff who put our children first and centre

·       A supportive parent group (FOLS), Local Governing Body and wider local community

·       An opportunity to work within the supportive collaborative network of the Good Shepherd Trust and in a fantastic location in the Lake District National Park

We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of all our pupils and staff and expect all applicants to share this commitment.  All shortlisted candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. Application forms and further details about the post are available from the school website https://www.lorton.cumbria.sch.uk/about-us/vacancies.html .  Visits to the school are encouraged and welcome by prior arrangement (ideally on 15th May at 10am or 4pm or 16th May at 2pm) with the Head of School, Olivia Harrison, or Executive Headteacher, Jo Laker.  Please contact the school office (manned 8am-12 Mon-Fri) by phone (01900 85919) or email: secretary@lorton.cumbria.sch.uk to arrange.

Closing date: Monday 19th May 12 noon (Due to the short time scale applications may reopen if insufficient applications are received). Interviews planned for: Thursday 22nd or Friday 23rd May – but may be postponed until after half term if candidates are not currently in a post or the closing date is extended.
